Infocus LP280 SPLAMPLP2E Wonder Lamp
If you have ever had the pleasure of owning an Infocus LP-280 you would know that it is a projector that can last as long as the Energizer bunny. It has an excellent record of being defect free and the specifications are more than adequate for the average user. The reason why the Infocus LP-280 has lasted so long and users continue to keep using it rather than buying new is because it is one of the few projectors that has exceptionally high quality construction. It was introduced in 2001, which seems like a long time, however since then there have not been many projectors that can really blow it out of the water so to speak.
Its long life can somewhat be attributed to its 132W projector lamp. It does not require a high wattage lamp to produce its bright image, and when I say bright I mean 1000 ANSI lumens. The brightness of this machine is still on average higher than most entry level projectors. The LP-280’s low wattage lamp is what also contributes to its long life. Since it uses a low wattage lamp, the lamp has a tendency to last longer and prevents the machine from overheating.
The lamp typically is rated for 2000 hours, however, if you maintain your projector on a regular basis you could probably extend it for a few hundred hours. Contrast could be slightly better sitting at 400:1, but if you are using it for presentations or movies in a dark setting with little to moderate ambient light it shouldn’t pose to be a huge setback. The native resolution of 800x600p isn’t very impressive however, it does have the ability to compress up to 1280x1024 for all you HD lovers out there, and I know that there are a lot of you. The one plus side to having a native resolution that is lower is that most regular TV programs are going to look crisper than native most high resolution projectors.
That is about all we can say about the LP-280 without providing a demonstration, so make sure to check one out if you are in the market for an entry level projector. You could probably pick one up for cheap.
