Toshiba TDP-S80U…Great Yield, Great Lamp…
Of the new DLP projectors that are cutting into what used to be the cheap LCD projector market, the Toshiba TDP-S80U is picking up some serious speed. It used to be that only the LCD projectors could compete in the lower priced markets, but now with the entrance of value priced DLP projectors, there can only be more selection for the consumer.A truly great price for a crafty little machine, the S80U was introduced back in late 2004 for about $1800 US! Most projectors offer either boosted contrast or inflated lumens, but not usually both. The S80U yields the best of both worlds producing bright picture and blacker blacks, with a touch of unbelievable color saturation.
Squeaking out of the S80U are 2000 ANSI lumens so you can only expect exceptionable brightness, therefore eliminating the graininess without drowning out the colors. What allows this projector to amplify the levels of brightness is a 200W UHP projector lamp. 200W projector lamps have become popular these days as they are the reasonable choice for projector manufacturers to produce high output brightness of over 2000 ANSI, without going overboard on the whole power wasting issue.
Besides, if you want to save a little dough by saving energy, simply switch to economy mode and it won’t affect your picture that much. Not only does the S80U award you with the perfect amount of brightness, it also combines the one two punch of 2000:1 contrast for the knockout blow. Yes, no longer do you have to watch movies like Sin City and expect your blacks to be faded to gray making you feel like you are watching on grandma’s wooden framed box. Colors are so rich and deeply penetrating, that the only thing resembling bleeding will be the ocean of blood from The Shining.
Resolution on this baby is a staggering 800x600p, er…I mean…well…it can be pushed to its limits at 1600x1200p. So after fine tuning, the S80U can disperse a confounding crispness, and ultimately distribute an image of extraordinary quality. It lacks a digital input but makes up for it by providing every other kind, including compatibility for most HDTV sources up to 1080i.
The S80u travels well weighing only 3.5 kilograms and can put a baby to sleep with its 35db noise level. An interesting note is that the S80U has a PC card reading device allowing for quick presentations for people who don’t have room or time to bring and set up the laptop.
Overall, I really recommend the Toshiba S80U for its features, from its bright projector lamp inside, to its astounding mechanics that provide great contrast. Now go out and get one because they are really moving!
